JOB TITLE: Receiver
LOCATION: North Kingstown, RI
HOURS: 1st Shift

Key Responsibilities:
The Receiver role within the Distribution Center (“DC”) of Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) receives merchandise into the Warehouse Management System using and radio frequency (“RF”) scanner in a manner that meets established standards in safety, quality, and productivity. Additional responsibilities include unloading trailers and containers, using powered equipment, ensuring items are inspected for damage and verified against worksheets while noting any discrepancies.

  • Accurately complete and submit daily productivity sheets.
  • Receive and sort merchandise into warehouse inventory with real time RF scanner to facilitate reporting of shortages, overages, and damages.
  • Verify accuracy of freight by inspecting samples of each product.
  • Ensure pallets are properly built with no overhang or height restriction violations.
  • Work in compliance with standard operating procedures, audit-control procedures, and OSHA requirements.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and clean workspace to meet or exceed area safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Prior experience is welcomed, but not required. The Receiver role will receive specific training on equipment, processes, and all receiving functions ensuring an understanding of the Receiving function.
  • Successful training and completion of equipment operations in alignment with OSHA standards.
  • Prior knowledge of safety related and OSHA, federal and state regulations are preferred.
  • Ability to operate industrial powered equipment and attain any associated licensing.
  • Ability to physically unload merchandise and operate technology such as an RF scanner.
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet area productivity, quality, safety, housekeeping and attendance standards.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills as required for a team environment.
  • Effective Communicator: You possess strong communication skills and have the ability to build and maintain a culture of trust and respect.
  • Team Oriented: You are capable of embracing the ideas of others (even if they conflict with your own) for the sake of the Company. You commit time, focus, and energy to develop future OSJL leaders by motivating them around a common purpose and vision.
  • Self-motivated: You can work with a minimum amount of supervision and be capable of strategically prioritizing multiple tasks in a proactive manner. You understand the tools and processes needed to meet larger strategic initiatives.

  • The DC warehouse environment is characterized by temperature extremes, noise, movement of conveyors and power equipment, and other conditions associated with the operation of a high volume distribution center.
  • Works primarily in a DC environment. Must be able to remain stationary and/or continually move for up to 10 - 12 hours per day.
  • Responsible for physical activities including, but not limited to, using equipment, positioning self to properly complete tasks, ascending and descending to heights of twenty (20) feet or more safely and without limitation as well as moving and transporting merchandise on a frequent basis.
  • Should be able to lift and move fifty (50) lbs of material on a regular basis.
  • Should be able to bend, lift, stretch, and reach both below the waist and above the head.
