JOB TITLE: Animal Care Center Manager

REPORTS TO: Operations Director

FLSA STATUS: Exempt


Summary:

Oversees all operational departments which may include animal receiving, veterinary services, lost and found, adoptions and field operations. Responsible for assuring a high level of customer service, compliance with policies and mandates, budget preparation, and adherence to approved budgets. Assesses operational effectiveness and implements improvement enhancement measures.


BTAA Expectations of Employee:


  • Administer all personnel policies related to the animal care center to include hiring, firing, supervision and scheduling of staff.
  • Manage personnel in accordance with procedures and applicable laws.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and care of all animals at BTAA to include, housing, feeding, medical administration, and safety of each animal and the people in contact with them.
  • Focus on adoption increases to include a timely and appropriate placement of animals and a reduction in average length of stay and adoption returns.
  • Assist in the development and execution of an animal behavioral testing program that identifies safety concerns and solutions.
  • Work with Operations Director to develop an annual animal care center budget with a focus on cost containment to include vet costs, personnel costs, and building expenses.
  • Assist the Operations Director in establishing and maintaining animal care center policies, procedures and relationships with government officials with respect to animal control.
  • Provide good leadership and execute the code of conduct in a manner that encourages respectful relationships.
  • Motivate the team to accomplish the animal care center’s mission and goals.
  • Assist and support the Volunteer Coordinator in recruiting, training, and motivating quality volunteers.
  • Work with the Operations Director to develop and establish a customer service program that helps staff and volunteers provide quality service and a good public image to our customers and community.
  • Supervise the maintenance of the building with a focus on prevention of building problems, the safety of both people and a clean and efficient environment that meets the established standards of the inside building and the outside grounds.
  • Establish systems of efficiency for animal care and administration. Create programs to encourage healthier, happier animals which in turn are more adoptable.
  • Work with Operations Director to establish goals for the following and strive to meet those goals and provide metrics of meeting such goals and factors indicating why the goals are or are not being met.
    • Adoption fees, increase or decrease
    • Reduction of adoption returns
    • Decrease in average length of stay for animals prior to adoption
    • Reduction of expenses
    • Identification new revenue streams
  • Ensure animal care center operations are in compliance with OSHA requirements and maintain OSHA logs as appropriate for personnel injuries.
  • Perform monthly reporting for municipal contracts and other entities as required.
  • Manage monthly staff training which increases the ability of staff and volunteer to more effectively care for the animals, more efficiently and safely perform their duties and/or has an overall greater benefit to the animals in our care as well as to staff.

Position Requirements:


Minimum 2 years of management experience. Animal related experience a plus but not required.

Ability to work as part of a team.

Demonstrates compassion, integrity, respect and stewardship toward people and animals.

Proficient in MS Office programs and computer knowledge/experience required.

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.

Some travel maybe required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk and sit and stand; is regularly required to use both hands to make coordinated movements to grasp or type; is regularly required to lift and /or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.


Work Environment:

The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee may be exposed to animal feces and animals with a potential for zoonotic exposure.
