About the Position

IT Apprentices learn and are exposed to real-world application of practical knowledge in actual business situations and contribute to business results through completion of assigned responsibilities, project participation and collaboration with colleagues in their own department and throughout the University. An IT Apprentice is responsible for one or more of the following areas: coding or system designs; development of system and/or installation of hardware; basic level system administration; security administration; routine maintenance and system upgrades; software/hardware debugging; and/or enhancements to existing IT systems to increase the effectiveness of the product for University use. In addition, IT Apprentices have the opportunity to network with others already working in their chosen profession and to build relationships that can help them into the future.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

1. Actively participate in a wide range of opportunities to apply practical knowledge to current business situations.

2. Participate with various teams within the Information Technology department to assess new application ideas, document and test new software applications, and develop applications.

3. Design, develop, code, test and debug new or existing software applications and installed hardware, and perform firmware and system administration responsibilities.

4. Participate in the development of IT systems user manuals and/or documentation to support the ongoing use and application of the IT system.

5. Demonstrate software and hardware functionality to others to introduce new or enhanced features, as necessary.

6. Suggest enhancements or offer alternative resolutions for software, hardware or cloud-based IT systems problems, as appropriate.

7. Perform other duties as required or apparent.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:


  • Actively enrolled or graduate of a Bachelor's degree in a technology field OR Completion of Coding / IT Bootcamp OR have one (1) year of related IT experience; AND
  • Able to commit to the Apprentice position for a minimum of three (3) months, with the possibility of a longer apprenticeship, if the position is available

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the Information Technology and Computer Science Field
  • Understanding and/or experience working in an agile or scaled agile team environment and meeting team commitments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external customers and department staff
  • Able to communicate well with others, to perform work in a team environment
  • Easily adapt to and embrace a fast moving and rapidly changing work environment
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and exhibit a highly collaborative workstyle

Pay Range

The hourly pay rate range is $0.00 (minimum), $0.00 (midpoint), and $0 (maximum). The annualized amount, not including eligible overtime pay, is $62,399 (minimum), $62,400 (midpoint), and $62,401 (maximum).*

  • Typical hiring range is between the minimum and midpoint of the above pay range. Actual starting base pay may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, location and budget.
